I have a hard time dieting more then 8 weeks at a time so that is what I stick too with my trainer. That way I don't get mentally burnt out.

I do follow the standard 12 week timeframe but I also stay fairly lean year round never going above 12% max so it is easy for me to get ready. In all honesty I could start prep with my trainer 6 weeks out but that becomes to stressful and time consuming. I find by making competing a lifestyle rather then on season/off season I am able to actual enjoy the process rather then killing myself to get ready and not having fun.
