Sports Background:
I’ve always played various sports since the age of 4. I stuck with my favorite sport of soccer and played college ball and indoor soccer leagues after college. I began kickboxing as an outlet after having twins and started lifting seriously for the past 4 years.

Why did you begin competing?
After having 3 kids and giving up my career as a teacher to stay home to care for them, I began going to the gym for some me time. I started incorporating more free weights into my routine and pretty soon, my physique began to change. I began reading magazines and surfing the web for workout ideas and came across many athletic women who possessed amazing physiques. Soon, with a few diet tweaks and dedication, I started feeling the best I had in years. Several people approached me, both in and out of the gym, about competing. I never took it seriously until a manager at a gym pulled me aside and said she would help me with posing for a competition. “You could totally do this”, she said. I thought, why not? I had a huge case of stage fright and fear of speaking in front of large groups. I figured what better way to not only face my fear, but aim for looking like the female athletes I had always admired in magazines!! With her help and a great nutrition coach, I began my journey at the age of 38, of not only competing in figure but Bikini and Miss Fit Body as well!!

What do you like best about competing?
There are so many aspects to competing that I love! The dedication through diet and exercise that it takes to achieve the look of a competitor is at the top. Competing helps me stay focused during contest prep and allows for growth during the off-season. I also take great pride in the fact that I am a natural competitor and will remain that way. I hope that by competing and constantly striving to make improvements to my body, that I can inspire women at any age with kids or no kids, that anything is attainable with hard work.

Admirable Competitors:
Erin Stern, Candice Keene, Terri McBee, Ava Cowen, Tanji Johnson, Adela Garcia, Patricia Beckman

Favorite Diet food: Oatmeal with protein powder a tbsp natural peanut butter!
Favorite Body part to train: I love training shoulders using mostly a swiss ball, free weights, or cables.

Least favorite: I don’t really have a least favorite.

Hobbies: Painting, reading about fitness and health on blogs and websites, Pinterest, and connecting with other competitors and like-minded fitness people.

Words to live by:
I find the following two quotes are great words to live by and ones that have got me through some challenging times recently. Despite those times, I have gotten a second chance to do what I love to do and inspire others to overcome challenges not matter what they might be.
“What does not break you will only make you stronger.
“Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up, depends on us”. ~ L. Thomas Holdcroft
