A Little About Lindsey

Sports background: I have about 15 years’ experience in soccer, which included Varsity Jr. High and High School teams as well as a state division team in middle school. I ran track in High school competing in the mile and the 400 meter on a state level.

Training Background: I was always into sports growing up and after high school I was lucky enough to fall into a job that trained and certified me as a nutrition consultant with a weight loss company locally. I loved my clients and I loved seeing the take those steps to better their lives and to accomplish such a large feet. Several of my clients during that time frame lost more than 150lbs and even more over 100. There was no set type of client and I loved working with them all. While there I met a wonderful man (who would later become my husband) who finally took me into a gym and really taught me how to lift and the benefits of it. I had been in a weight room before but never like this….. He showed me the basics from how to use a smiths machine all the way to free weights and the resistance bands. He removed any false ideas in my head such as women get bulky from lifting weights and cardio is what makes you skinny and helped me achieve a goal I had, had since I was 17, to fit in size 3 jeans. Within about 8 months I had quit my job as a consultant and become a personal trainer and nutritional plan writer full time. It was during this time frame I was also introduced to the idea of figure competing and my goals simply developed from there.

Why NPC: I chose NPC via recommendation from my first trainer. I was introduced to competing originally by my husband years ago but fell head over heels in love when I saw Heather Dees take the overall in March 2010. I knew instantly that was something I was going to do and I competed in my first show June 2011.

What do you like best about competing? I love the prep work involved. I love the self-discipline it takes to compete because I feel that it flows over into the rest of my life. I feel like I work harder to be a more positive, disciplined, hard-working person in my everyday life just like in the gym. I also absolutely LOVE the people I get to meet. Some of my absolute best friends are people I have met while prepping for shows. I feel like we are more of a family rather than just good friends. It is always great to have the opportunity to help others on their journeys to shows o just simply improving their lives. My favorite part of my day is asking questionnaire emails from people wanting advice to go to the next level.

Competition History

June 2011: NPC Utah

Upcoming is March 2012: NPC Utah

Competitors you look up to: Heather Dees has been a huge inspiration to me. The first show I ever saw was her taking overall the year she went pro here locally. She was my original pose coach and a great friend pushing me to keep going getting ready for my first show. Generally in the industry though one of my biggest inspiration comes from Nicole Wilkins not just because she is the first to hold The Ms. Olympia and Ms. Figure International titles in the same year but because she lost her first show. She to me is a true representation of what it means to start at the bottom and work your way all the way to the top, that kind of drive to be a better person and achieve something is what competing is all about to me.

Favorite Cheat Food: PIZZA hands down. It is always my number one pick and probably the only thing I crave while dieting.

Favorite Diet Food: My meal plan is completely designed to fit what I like so I love everything on it but oddly enough the one thing I continuously crave while dieting is my chicken. I a lot of times end up with it 3 or 4 times a day simply because it is the only protein I crave.

Favorite Body Part to train: I would have to say shoulders. The amount of growth I have seen in the last 6 months on my shoulders just makes me want to work them that much more because I love it SO much! I will admit though that my husband calls me the cardio queen. To me it is not just sweating it out it is an endorphin booster and I absolutely love nothing more than getting on cardio with a movie on and just going….

Least favorite body part to train: Definitely chest, I always end up the most sore from chest for some reason, but I always do what I need to.

Hobbies: I absolutely love reading. I just recently got a Nook for Christmas and it is toted with me everywhere. My husband is also a rather big hobby of mine. We work together so we spend a lot of time together and neither of us would have it any other way. We spend most our time at our house in the mountains enjoying the beauty and doing things like hiking and we both love mountain biking.

Words to live by: "That which we persist in doing becomes easier. Not that the nature of the object has changed but that our power to do is increased.” Also “Life isn’t about finding yourself, it is about creating yourself.” At the end of the day though I really like listening t the words f the people who came before me that I can learn from, I feel like life itself is nothing but a wealth of knowledge and I will do anything to soak as much of it up as I can.
